Bachelorette Tayshia Recap: X-Factor

Bachelorette Tayshia Recap | Week 3 |

As the third week of Tayshia’s reign commences, the air crackles with tension. A snot-nosed newbie called Young Noah received a coveted date rose the night before and uses this endowment to demonstrate his prowess. Our Host Chris Harrison further fuels the fire by praising Young Noah in the bros’ morning meeting by publicly applauding the ankle-biter for hopping a fence to prove his love for Tayshia.

Lesson Learned #1: Tayshia likes grand gestures.
Lesson Learned #2: Young Noah could be Chris Harrison’s son.

Hare doesn’t bother with a date card. He ticks off the names of eight gentlemen and explains the next date’s rules. They must write an original love song and perform it in front of Tayshia. The winner will receive a one-on-one date, and the others will be sent back to the cabanas.

The men run off to secluded alcoves. They work through intricate rhymes, like, “What rhymes with house?” It’s too bad Tayshia hasn’t experienced a run-in with a mouse. Does anyone know if she’s been doused with a type of liquid? Anyone?

Sadly, not one gent among the brood is musical. Therefore the table of instruments provides zero inspiration. I guess all those people tried out for “Listen To Your Heart.” It makes me appreciate the Shawn Mendes documentary so much more. He can write songs. He can play anything with a string. That kid is talented with a capital T, and his song Seniorita with Camila Cabello is my jam.

What I’m saying is that when the guys performed in the hospitality suite of the La Quinta, I can guarantee that talent scouts who happened to be watching the show were not reaching for their phones because they had discovered the next biggest name in music.

Zac is definitely tone-deaf. It’s clear why High Hair Kenny manages bands and doesn’t play in one. Blake doesn’t take the exercise seriously. Riley expresses his feelings through prose as if standing in a spotlight in the corner of a coffee shop after hours.

Bennett actually raps, and I almost die of laughter. Demar titles his work “Mocha Latte,” which cracks me up. But it was Ivan who sounds the most melodic. He scores bonus points for asking Tayshia to join him on stage. Clearly, this is the guy who deserves one-on-one time.

I will say I was impressed with Tayshia’s mustard-colored dress. She looked phenomenal. IN MUSTARD YELLOW. How does she pull that off? That’s the real winner here.

Later at her suite, Tayshia attempts to pull Ivan out of his shy shell with a few games. Pretending the floor is lava (the easier version of True American) ended with a spontaneous pillow fight and a rousing game of Twister. Once they fed each other sushi and barely put a dent in the largest ice cream sundae in the world, Tayshia takes Ivan out poolside to talk about life.

And it was powerful. I may have cried three times.

We learn that Ivan’s dad is African-American, just like Tayshia’s dad. Both of their mothers are not. The fact that Ivan is biracial and so open to his feelings surrounding the topic intrigues Tayshia. They discuss George Floyd and Black Lives Matter and the push and pull of identifying with a certain race.

Then Ivan shares the story of his younger brother, who fell off the deep end when Ivan when to college. It’s a story of a man who spent time in prison, experienced racial injustice on the inside, and fought through it all with a loving family and newborn daughter on the outside. Ivan wept. Tayshia wept. I wept.

Then Ivan asked Tayshia how the “events of the world” have affected her. Through huge tears, Tayshia repeats the phrase “it’s been a lot,” while Ivan encourages her to feel her feelings with a tender, “you’re good.” Good Lord, I’m gutted. She’s struggling internally, and Ivan is there to hold her up. In the middle of a desert. At the La Quinta Spa and Resort.

I’ve watched this debauchery for more than half my life, and I can honestly say it was the most vulnerable conversation I’ve ever witnessed on this show. It was a beautiful moment. I’m glad ABC gave it so much air time, and I’m not surprised a bit that Tayshia gave Ivan the date rose.

GROUP DATE

Basking in the sweet exchange from the night before, you can imagine my inability to switch gears when the group date immediately following the commercial break consists of a list of dares created by a bunch of fourteen-year-old boys. Although none of the men were required to wear Speedos this week, the date’s ridiculous nature is still intact.

Tayshia wants to know how far these guys are willing to go for love. And she invites Becca (who dumped Garrett a few months ago) and Sydney (who you may not remember) to live a life of quarantine with her for a few weeks before sending the guys through an obstacle course of nonsense. How fun!

First, the guys must chug a smoothie made of things one might find near a pond or stagnant body of water, plus the intestines of various barnyard or zoo animals. Lovely. Then they must locate Chris Harrison (fine dining on snow crab by the pool) and have him autograph their butt. How posh.

Then they must pretend to have an orgasm over the loudspeaker of the resort for a minute. Unfortunate. Followed by the perilous and sometimes fatal act of eating a habanero pepper before proposing to Tayshia. All the wackiness unfolds as Tayshia, and the girls laugh and taunt the guys through a bullhorn.

At dinner, Tayshia slips into her favorite shimmery, ice blue leotard and pairs it with a gossamer wrap. Is it a swimsuit and sarong? Is it one of those shirts that snap at the crotch and see-through skirt? We can’t be sure.

Bennett whisks Tayshia away so he can tell her that he’s never felt the way he felt after he got down on one knee and proposed to her through his teary pepper eyes. Although he’s been in that position before and called the wedding off (or did she call it off?), he never thought these feelings would come back. He celebrates this reality by leading with his tongue to make out with Tayshia.

I don’t buy it for one second.

After her time with Bennett transitions into time with Blake, I realize that this is supposed to be the “truth” part of the Truth or Dare date. When she asks him, “What’s one thing your ex would warn me about?” Blake responds by letting Tayshia know that he has great relationships with all his exes. Then he doesn’t answer the question. That seems like a red flag to me.

Tayshia wants to know if Riley can prioritize family over his demanding lawyer lifestyle. High Hair Kenny promises to be “normal” should he ever meet her parents. Demar declares he will never get divorced, and Zac spends some awkward time in the hot tub.

Was I wrong, or did Tayshia seem guarded when speaking to Zac? Somehow he manages to break through using terms like “building something with you” and “working as a team” and “I’ll be your rock.” Tayshia either buys it or craves a little make out time with Zac because before we know it, they get after it in the tepid, unmoving water. Additionally, she gives Zac the date rose, so he must be back on track.

Later that night (or should I say early that morning?), Ben decides he needs to make a bold move and sneak his way to Tayshia’s suite. Pay no attention to the lights and cameras following him. Stealth is the name of his game.

As you remember, Tayshia shares her disappointment after the wrestling date when our former veteran didn’t come to see her. In Ben’s defense, he was waiting to be the last guy to snag her away, and time just ran out. For some reason, he doesn’t tell her that fact.

Instead, he falls all over himself, apologizing and promises to be the first one to grab her hand at the rose ceremony cocktail party. We hear an ominous knock on the door and are led to believe that doofy Ed has also made his way to Tayshia’s suite as showrunners intended us to believe.

Wrong. Ben ordered champagne to be delivered to Tayshia’s suite, and Ed ends up on the opposite side of the resort, banging on Harrison’s door. This, of course, is in no way real, and Harrison plays the part, so the audience will, in fact, know that the entire thing was set up. He even offers Ed to come in and share some early morning wine with him, which, to be fair, sounds like a dream.

I guess Chris Harrison needs some entertainment during these long weeks of quarantine. Otherwise, why else is he participating in all the shenanigans? I know I’ve complained in the past that his humor is not featured enough, but this seems a bit silly. And I would never dare call Our Host silly.

ROSE CEREMONY

The boys suit up and head to the conference room. Ed is the lucky one who gets to wear the dusty rose jacket this week. I have a theory that the person wearing the jacket must be saved.

As promised, Ben grabs Tayshia first, and they make out. Then Riley gives her a relationship agreement Sheldon Cooper would be proud of and seals it with a kiss. Per the usual, Brendan tries to emote his feelings, but it’s tough when Tayshia sticks her tongue down his throat.

Then there’s Young Noah, who has officially been deemed the villain of this season. He wears the label proudly and carries on in his most juvenile behavior any chance he gets. His main target? Bennett. Sadly, the Harvard grad eats out of the palm of Young Noah’s hand.

Young Noah tells Tayshia that he understands why he’s getting heat from the other guys for hopping the fence. He doesn’t understand why they all imply that she gave him the rose to shake things up in the house. After casually dropping that bomb, Young Noah attempts to change the subject, but Tayshia pulls a page from Clare’s book and chooses not to let go.

Tayshia wants names, and Young Noah isn’t giving them to her. But he does tell her multiple men believe this idea. He further adds that he can’t stand that they “discredit your thought process” and rounds out the sentence with a sheepish “I’m not here to tell on guys.”

It’s enough for Tayshia to summon all the men into one room so she can rip them a new one. No one will question her integrity. She is intentional, honest, vulnerable, and true to herself. If you question her, she will gladly walk you to the door.

Tayshia drops her mic and shouts, “see you at the rose ceremony,” before exiting the room in a huff. The men are stunned, and it’s Eazy who wonders aloud, “What did I miss?”

Context clues are strung together, and all signs point to Young Noah. He doesn’t hesitate a bit when asked what he told Tayshia to make her so angry. He answers, “Some of you think Tayshia gave me a rose for show.”

Fifteen angry men stare daggers into his beady little eyes. No one said any such thing. Ed’s anger issues ignite, and he begins shouting. Riley’s sense of justice kicks in, and he begins judging the moment. Eazy continues to look bewildered. And Bennett’s blood boils because he didn’t have any alone time with Tayshia, and now the cocktail party is canceled.

Bennet commands the room. He tells Young Noah that he will never end up with Tayshia and that he owes her and everyone in the room an apology. Young Noah rolls his eyes like the villain in an 80s movie and nurses his whiskey.

Tayshia waltzes into the rose ceremony room, gives a cold nod to the mass in front of her, and calmly hands out her roses. Bespectacled Jordan, Anesthesiologist Joe, High Hair Kenny, and Chasen are out. I don’t think one of them cared.

In more exciting news, it looks like next week is a two-on-one between Young Noah and Bennett. Things get scrappy, and it looks like Tayshia lays down the hammer. Here’s hoping they BOTH go home!

Am I the only one who can’t stand Bennett? Is Ivan your new number one choice for Tayshia? And will we ever see alone time with Tayshia and Eazy? Sound off in the comments section!

Great recap, Lincee! During the “orgasms” I was shouting “Make it stop, make it stop!” SO awkward. Also, I love Ivan.

I love Ivan too. But I have a small fear that he could end up in the “friend zone.” They had a really deep, emotional, meaningful conversation, and I think he is completely smitten with her. I believe she likes spending time with him, admires and respects him, and feels close to him. I’m just not sure I see her as being as attracted to him as she is to some of the other men. Maybe it’s just because he is more reserved and they both are letting things build slowly. I hope that’s the case, and I’m wrong about the “friend zone.” I’d love to see them together at the end, living happily ever after. But if she ends up choosing someone else, I think Ivan will not stay single for long–I’m sure there are lots of young women who would love to date a sincere guy like him.

I wondered why several of the men didn’t run after Tayshia after she chewed them out to tell him that no, they never said that and no, Noah never talked to them about it. It was a blatant lie on Noah’s part but everyone just stood there and got mad, didn’t try to fix it with Tayshia.

“Doofy Ed.” That is the perfect description! I’m not a Bennet fan either. I was earlier, but he’s much too full of himself!

Also, as a commenter pointed out last week, your latest entry isn’t showing up on the home screen of your site. I had to manually search in a search engine “bachelorette tayshia week 3” for this page to come up. I’m so glad I found it! 🙂

If this continues in the future, and you can get to the Home Page, click on Blog, then Recap. It will pop down a list, with the most recent recap at the top for you to choose. The same thing has been happening with Podcasts. The newest one doesn’t show on the home page. Same thing–click on Podcasts, and it will do a drop down list for the latest.

Hi Michele-
Unfortunately that isn’t the case for me. When I click on “recaps,” the top recap option is last weeks “Grown A— Man” entry, not this week’s “X-Factor.”
I’ve refreshed the page but nothing is different! ‍♀️

I’m having the same problem. Got here through the link on the Podcast page but this same link didn’t work for me earlier in the week.

Whoa. That’s weird that we are getting different options from the same website. I don’t know what’s going on with Lincee’s website. I wonder if she has two versions that are active? I’m NOT a techie, so I really don’t know how they work, or why her most recent posts for recaps and blogs are not showing on her home page. Puzzling.

I love Brendan and Ivan, but I am so frustrated she is not hitting it off with Eazy yet. He is hilarious and adorable, and I would love to see more of them together. Why she is wasting time with a toddler like Noah is beyond me.

How come the new recaps stopped showing up on the front page?
I’m liking Tayshia’s season so far! Love that they showed a meaningful conversation between her and Ivan. He seems like such a genuine sweet guy. Unfortunately (please don’t hate me for saying it!) I just don’t see a spark between them. I think they may end up being good friends, and he will probably go far, but I don’t see him being the last guy standing. Then again, she did end up in a relationship with JPJ from paradise, so I guess anything could happen… Zac seems like a front runner. She does seem guarded around him… I feel like it’s because she’s into him and doesn’t want to get hurt. But then again, there’s also Young Noah in the mix, which makes no logical sense. So I don’t know! Tayshia is not very predictable when it comes to guys.

Clearly this is an unpopular opinion but I kind of love Noah. I love how he’s such a brilliant agent of chaos. His “tattling” was masterful in that he didn’t name any names, and he was all “I don’t care if they don’t like me, but they are questioning YOUR integrity” was just absolutely brilliant. I don’t think he should end up with Tayshia, especially given how manipulative he can obviously be, but I do enjoy watching him get under all the other guys’ skin for entertainment value. I also don’t mind looking at him.

The Black Lives Matter conversation between Tayshia and Ivan was the most pure and good thing I’ve ever seen on this show. I am so blown away that ABC didn’t cut it for fear of “being too political” (give me a break). And thank YOU Lincee for highlighting the importance of that moment in your recap. I too cried several times.

Great recap ! I look forward to these every week; however, I could just now view it today (Dec 2). I checked yesterday and could not find it. This happened the past couple of weeks too.

SOLUTION to locating recaps — At the end of the link in your browser where it says: “recap-week-2/” just change the “2” to “3” as they seem to be named in numerical order. That’s how I found this week’s episode 3. Next week presumably will be “recap-week-4/” etc.
