Christmastiiiiiiiiiime is heeeeeeeere

Everyone knows I love the holidays. I am in the best mood from Thanksgiving, through December up until New Year’s Day. (Of course then I go through a little depression when I have to take my Christmas stuff down, but that’s a post for a different time.)

Yesterday as I was sitting at my desk working on a story about my recent trip to Oklahoma and trying to figure out a way to delicately tell the district manager that, no, I can’t put BOOMER SOONER as the title of the main article, when my colleague Nicole comes in and announces that it is snowing outside.

Como say come again?

Sure enough, it was our own little miniature Houston blizzard. And it was fabulous.

Driving home was a trip. People in Houston can’t handle any anything more than scorching heat when driving home during rush hour. A little rain causes them to freak out. I’m going to go ahead and let you imagine what SNOW did to the crazies on the road. But I didn’t mind. I was busting out to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas” at the top of my lungs. Christmastime is indeed here!

I arrive safely home and mentally prepare myself to run as quickly as I can to my door. Of course I didn’t bring a coat to work because it was 68 degrees when I left my house that morning, so I was prepared to feel a little chilly. But it didn’t matter because it was snowing. I race out of the car and up to my stoop. I stop suddenly. No it wasn’t a dead rat. It was a package!

I forgot that I had purchased Straight No Chaser’s CD from Amazon weeks before. And it was here! Another Christmas miracle!

Now I can listen to their rendition of “12 Days of Christmas” any time I want!

My night consisted of music, hot chocolate, watching snow fall and practicing my lines for the Christmas variety show I’ll be performing in this weekend. That’s right. I said VARIETY SHOW! I can hardly contain myself. Here’s a picture of me from last year’s performance:

I was a present for one of the acts. This year, my co-host Jill and I have several more appearances. And we sing in the opening number. I know. Everyone needs to give me a little “bless her heart” and send up a prayer right now that I don’t blow it. Show starts tonight. WISH ME LUCK!

In the meantime, enjoy my boys below:

You introduced me to Straight No Chaser last year and I bought their CD weeks ago. I generally have a strict rule about nothing Christmas until after Thanksgiving but I will admit, I started listening to that CD about 3 days before Thanksgiving and haven’t stopped! Good luck on the variety show. I can not wait for recaps to come back in January!

SNC hasn’t left my cd player for the past week since I saw them in concert and bought the cd. Amazing! I really need them to make a cd of non christmas music so that I can enjoy them year round.

EEK! I’m so excited you featured Straight No Chaser here– I was at Indiana the first year they started and let me just tell you what heartthrobs they were all over campus! I’m so excited about their record deal and can’t believe I put their CD on my Christmas list instead of pre-ordering it. I may have to listen to it all through January.

Thanks for keeping me laughing – and I thought I was the only one who sung Mariah Carey’s – All I Want for Christmas is You! at the top of my lungs driving home in the snow! Now – I live in Colorado and I have to admit this happens many times between Thanksgiving and Christmas and maybe a week after Christmas – but I am glad I am not alone! You should also try singing my other favorites – Do They Know It’s Christmas (Band-Aid – yes, you know you love it! – I force my co-workers to listen to this!), My Only Wish (Britney Spears – it really is a new classic) and any song from the Soundtrack for the best Christmas Cartoon Ever – Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer – various songs by Burl Ives (the little chubby Santa snowman in the cartoon that seems to float across the snow – love him!)….Happy Holidays!

You are a true gift!!! I have never heard of Straight No Chaser, but now I am a true fan. In less than 6 hours I have downloaded their CD, hooked all 3 of my kids on the music (they are home from school due to the weather in MA), and introduced my mother to Straight No Chaser. While she was watching the video at work, her co-workers came over and were interested and wanted to know more. A professor (she works at a university) wandered by and wanted the link to your website regarding your posting of Straight No Chaser’s video. So there you go. I think that there are probably 25 new fans, just in the last few hours, Thanks for always giving us something interesting. Looking forward to reading Bachelor updates!

OMG! How handsome are these guys and so talented!!! Lindsay, thank you, thank you and a million thanks for introducing me to Straight No Chaser. I am going to order the CD right now! They really made me smile during this rough day at work! And they are a perfect way to ease into the Holiday season in Southern Cali where we don’t really get to experience the season. 🙂 I can’t get over how adorable these boys are!!!

Lincee,
I didn’t know it had snowed in Houston because we were freaking out ourselves over here. Baton Rouge, LA looked like winter wonderland. Imagine my surprise when I woke up Thursday morning looked out the window and saw a good 5 inches of snow on the ground!! In South Louisiana!! We didn’t know how to act. It was really unbelievable!
Thanks for all the laughs

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Straight no Chaser! In fact, I think poor Sabrina is going to grow up thinking that their rendition of the 12 Days of Christmas is the what that song is supposed to sound like….poor kid. Merry Christmas!

A big GOOD LUCK to you for the variety show!

I downloaded the SNC album from iTunes the day it went on sale in mid-October, and have listened to it daily ever since. It probably won’t leave my playlist until February at least, much to my fiance’s dismay 🙂

I hope “MA Mom from Cali” is reading this!!!!!

So to all you SNC fans, late onto the a cappella bandwagon… there is a huge amount of GREAT music around! (SNC is terrific, don’t get me wrong, but there are loads of great stuff everywhere and fantastic concerts and an annual competition at Carnegie…) It’s all over the USA!

So, MA Mom from Cali (I am a Californian living in MA too, btw), there is a FANTASTIC group at Tufts called the Beelzebubs. Also great stuff at Harvard, MIT, BC and more. AND a “professional” group in MA that I adore called “Ball in the House”.

Check ’em out:

…this is my favorite album of theirs: http://www.bubs.com/album1993Vince.asp

p.s. thanks Lincee for posting the video, it’s so fun – espec the dreidel guy… :o)
