Fall 2016 TV

It’s that time of year when DVRs are cleaned out, fall 2016 TV calendars are consulted and I remind myself that it’s not a bad thing that I watch so much TV because I get paid to do it a fraction of the time. Hooray!

Below is my rather large, rather random weekly lineup, including NEW shows that are debuting this fall. Feel free to point and mock in the comfort of your own home, but please tell me if there is something you love that is missing from my roster. Remember, I don’t like blood, guts, gore, scary, raunchy or depressing stuff. Think love stories, sarcasm, funny storylines, pulling heart strings, one-liners, dancing, singing (not The Voice or Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) and the good guys eventually winning. I can’t wait to hear your suggestions in the comment section!

SUNDAY

Network: ABC
Show: Once Upon a Time
Defense: I recognize that I’m starting off a little unconventional, but the answer to the question you’re asking yourself right now is yes. Yes, the show is still on the air and yes I still watch. It’s Captain Hook, people.
Hot Guy Alert: I wrote an entire article about it on Entertainment Weekly. Take your pick!

Network: ABC
Show: Quantico
Defense: Most of you probably gave up around mid-season of Quantico, and I totally understand. I’ll give it another go, but the writers are going to have to come up with something better than blowing people up every episode to keep me engaged in the storyline.
Hot Guy Alert: There’s always my boy Agent Ryan Booth, but I think it’s important to note that Blair Underwood is now a series regular!

MONDAY

Network: ABC
Show: Dancing with the Stars
Defense: This is me we’re talking about. Dancing? My favorite D-List stars and Olympic medalists cha-cha-ing around a ballroom? Sign me up.
Hot Guy Alert: Call me Val!

Network: CBS
Show: The Big Bang Theory
Defense: I love this show with all of my heart. Amy Farah Fowler is the best thing on TV right now and when you put her and Sheldon Cooper in the same room, it’s magic. It’s nerd magic, but magic nonetheless. Here’s to season 10!
Hot Guy Alert: I’m going with Wil Wheaton on this one.

Network: The CW
Show: Jane the Virgin
Defense: I watched season 1 this summer and L-O-V-E-D it. I’m currently binging season 2 (out on Netflix) before the show debuts in September. Some of you told me about Jane and I should have listened. This is right up my alley!
Hot Guy Alert: Like Jane, it’s hard for me to choose between Rafael and Michael. I go back and forth. Rafael holding a baby certainly helps in the decision-making process.

TUESDAY

Network: FOX
Show: New Girl
Defense: Schmidt and CeCe are married! Cue the hijinks!
Hot Guy Alert: Nick Miller. All day.

Network: The CW
Show: The Flash
Defense: It’s Grant Gustin as a super hero. What’s not to like? This dude is so charming.
Hot Guy Alert: The aforementioned Mr. Gustin. In the red suit, out of the red suit, it makes no difference.

Network: NBC
Show: This Is Us
Defense: You probably saw the trailer for this show 9,000 times while watching the Olympics. Dare I say it’s NBC’s answer to the Parenthood void? I’m one-hundred-percent in, ready to watch with Kleenex by my side.
Hot Guy Alert: Justin Hartley. Google him.

Network: The CW
Show: No Tomorrow
Defense: The show brands itself as the answer to anyone who is frustrated that there are no love stories anymore. MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY! As we all know, something will inevitably get in the way of our two leads falling in love. In this instance? A pending apocalypse. Dang it.
Hot Guy Alert: Galavant himself, Joshua Sasse.

WEDNESDAY

Network: ABC
Show: The Goldbergs
Defense: This show speaks to my nostalgic soul. I absolutely adore every single episode and feel extremely old when I watch my childhood play out before me. In a good way, of course.
Hot Gal Alert: Bev in her jazzercise outfits, for sure. Her shoulder pads come in a close second.

Network: The CW
Show: Arrow
Defense: I can’t seem to quit Oliver Queen.
Hot Guy Alert: Watch this video:

Network: ABC
Show: Modern Family
Defense: I’ll be honest with you: This show is often on in the background most of the time while I’m doing something else. I’m not a quitter, so I’m going to stick with the Dunpheys until they live exclusively in syndication.
Hot Guy Alert: Cam speaks my language.

THURSDAY

Network: ABC
Show: Notorious
Defense: I have been following Piper Perabo since she worked at Coyote Ugly. I’m not sure if I’m going to go all in on this one though. I will give it a solid effort.
Hot Guy Alert: I have been following Daniel Sunjata since he was a current boyfriend of Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. That’s a GREAT show by the way. Emma Stone kills it in my opinion. I have the DVD if you want to borrow it…

Network: CBS
Show: Pure Genius
Defense: This one will be a complete shot in the dark. I can see it being interesting, but also slow moving. Like Notorious, I’ll give it a solid four or five episodes to grab me before I let it go. It has a Red Band Society feel about it. We all know how that one ended. Case in point: Half of you have no idea what I’m talking about.
Hot Guy Alert: Everyone’s best friend, the amazing Dermot Mulroney.

FRIDAY

Network: The CW
Show: The Vampire Diaries
Defense: Duh. Salvatore brothers 4-ever.
Hot Guy Alert: Squish Damon and Stefan together and you have my dream guy!

October 4, 2016
Network: HULU
Show: The Mindy Project
Defense: Mindy Kaling is my spirit animal.

November 25, 2016
Network:
Netflix
Show: Gilmore Girls
Defense: Where they lead, I will follow.

This is Us also has HOT Vito whatever-his-last-name-is/JESS FROM GILMORE GIRLS!!! 🙂 I also am obsessed with Black-ish. It’s HILARIOUS. Younger is amazing- (TV Land, S3 premiering 9/28) so if you haven’t watched that one yet, now is the time.

I think Brooklyn Nine-Nine is the best show on TV. It is so good! I used to love love The Mindy Project, but thought it was a bit too dark and crude once it went to Hulu. I still love it, but not as much as before.

I loved Superstore last year… it is completely over-the-top “humor” but it always made me giggle. I cannot WAIT for This is Us. I totally got the Parenthood vibe from the trailers and have been needing something to fill the hole in my life since P’hood ended. Also, Scandal. I can’t help but love it.

I am with you Lincee on your choices for tv viewing. Still missing Parenthood and now watching for the third time Friday Night Lights. Love Coach Taylor and Tammy. Also, enjoyed two Spanish shows I found on Netflix Gran Hotel and Velvet.

So, I want to watch “This is Us,” but I don’t feel like crying. It looks really great, but again I don’t feel like crying. So I’ll probably tune in and cry a bunch and then get hooked and quit watching one night because they went and made me cry again. But what can you do?

I know….
…watch Survivor!!!! 🙂

Seriously though, This is Us, Superstore, Speechless, Amazing Race and Survivor, maybe a little CSI if I’m bored and The Good Life if it ends up actually being good, and that’s about it. I’ve fallen off from watching a lot of regular shows since The Office and Parks and Parenthood ended, but some stuff this year looks a bit promising!

This Is Us!! I hope it lives up to the appearances. They had me at Jess Mariano (Milo Ventimiglia)! I also think The Good Place looks cute.

Am I the only one excited to see the new Kevin James show “Kevin Can Wait”? I am obsessed with Younger!! Can’t wait for This is Us also. I heard about Gilmore Gorls but I don’t have Netflix so I guess I’ll need to research that. Thanks for the list Lincee, I saw several shows that I want to DVR and try a couple of episodes.

Thrilled to see both The Flash and Arrow on the list! Also looking forward to seeing “This Is Us;” I’ve been a Justin Hartley fan since his days as Oliver Queen on “Smallville.”

Watch the first season of Poldark on Amazon Video right away. Then you’ll be ready for season two on PBS. It’s not Downton Abbey because Poldark isn’t rich. But it’s beautiful, and he’s beautiful, and you will love it.
