IHGB Movie Review: ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2’

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2
Rated: PG-13
Starring: Nia Vardalos and John Corbett
The Trailer:

The Gist: The family is back for another Greek wedding!

My Thoughts:

  1. Remember how the original My Big Fat Greek Wedding was a delight? The second one is just one step down from that. It’s a fun movie with lots of laughs.
  2. The reason why it’s one step down from the original is because the jokes are familiar. On more than one occasion, I didn’t laugh as hard as I did back in 2002 when I originally heard the zinger.
  3. Never fear, dear reader. John Corbett is as F-I-N-E as he was once upon a time.
  4. I liked how they brought back the entire family for the sequel. When I say the entire family, I mean THE ENTIRE FAMILY. And then some.
  5. I want to be Aunt Voula when I grow up. She completely steals the show in my opinion.
  6. I will implement “pull my neck” the next time I take a picture with my mom. That is a fact.
  7. At one point near the end, I started to cry big tears. I hope you do the same so I don’t feel like such a dork.
  8. The trailer leads us to believe that the movie is about Toula’s daughter, Paris. It sort of is, but the majority of the movie revolves around Toula’s parents. I wish it had been the other way around. It all ties together nicely in the end.
  9. There wasn’t nearly enough OPA! shouting in my opinion.
  10. Paris isn’t as emo as she pretends to be. Her eyes are mesmerizing.
  11. Windex still fixes everything. My mom says the same thing about Sea Breeze astringent.

Survey Says
Some theaters here in Houston sell the first showing of a movie for only $5. If you can swing that in your town, I’d suggest you go see My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 on the big screen. If not, wait a few months and rent it on RedBox or iTunes. You’ll love it!

I can’t wait to see this. Even if it doesn’t quite reach the level of the original, it beats anything with a superhero in my book! I only wish I could watch it with my bestie (who lives 800 miles from me).

Loved the original, I’ll have to try to catch this one too. I tried to get a sneak preview thru Gofobo, but didn’t win tickets. I also saw there will be a movie based on Jane Austen’s “Lady “Susan” but it’s called ” “Love and Friendship “. Hope you will review that as well, assuming you go see it. Thanks for the review

As a mother whose daughter just got into NYU this movie gave me ALL THE FEELS! Lots of big tears.

I seriously thought it was AS GOOD AS the first! My daughter and I were belly laughing to tears. There was a LOT of original stuff in there. Loved the ‘Pull my neck’ thing – who knew? Voula with all her very inappropriate personal details flowing out at anyone, just anyone. She is awesome as the ‘fixer’ in the family. This was a must-see; we’ve been waiting years for it. Never before has a sequel been this up to par, IMO.

I saw it yesterday and found it to be merely okay. The story line was weird, and couldn’t understand the urgency of finding a guy for a 17 year old girl! Really? They knew she was going away to college. While I found the family endearing in the first movie, I found them to be somewhat annoying in #2. Don’t waste your money.
