I Hate Green Beans Podcast 13: Hurricane Harvey Relief

After writing about what we went through during Hurricane Harvey, I decided to tackle the “what now?” via podcast. The show is full of useful information about what’s actually happening today, what we are expecting later, and how we are going to stay strong in the meantime.

My roommate Lara and I discuss how you can help in specific ways, in general ways, and how our friend Alissa is mobilizing in creative ways in Fort Worth. Here are a few links that we discuss in the episode that you need to know:

Arise Africa is a ministry that works with vulnerable kids in Zambia. You may remember when Lara and I went on a mission trip there last year and I made her hold a rabbit, while I walked around with a snake on my shoulders like I was Britney Spears.

Alissa is the Executive Director of Arise Africa and has taken it upon herself to go above and beyond supporting us in Houston with a six-week old baby in tow. She’s Superwoman.

Here’s the Amazon wish list that she has put together full of REQUESTED ITEMS. Simply purchase whatever you like and Alissa will make sure it gets to us. She’s that cool and that passionate.

If you are in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and would like to drop off donations, Alissa is taking them at the Arise Africa office. They just moved in today and decided to shove all of their furniture in a corner so they can make room for stuff headed for Houston. Can you believe that?

Just ignore the paint fumes…

Here’s the link to our own church website where we are accepting financial donations. All proceeds will go to individuals in need who have been affected by the flood.

Here’s a link to the Red Cross.

Here’s a link to my fake boyfriend JJ Watt’s YouCare page. He’s raising all sorts of money for Hurricane Harvey victims.

Keep us in your prayers. Love ya, mean it!

An Amazon wish list. Brilliant. I’ve never felt like shopping for garbage bags and brooms was more important than I do right now.

Prayers continuing.

Hi, is there a phone # to provide for the Amazon order? It won’t let me move past the address section without one.

When I ordered from the wish list, it gave me the option to select the Arise Africa Gift Registry address as the shipping address. I didn’t have to put the address or a phone number in at all. Hope that helps.

Thanks Alyce! I’ll give it another try. Mr. JJ Watt will be my backup option.

Thanks for sharing this wish list with your readers. There are many donation options available but it feels good to donate specifically requested clean-up items.

Thoughts and prayers with you all.

I live in FTW. Are there other items that Alissa needs that I could drop off to her? I hate to order off the list when people from out of town have to do so whereas I can drop off stuff.

Lincee – a faith based organization that is there is Convoy of Hope, I hear they are partnering w. Focus on the Family. This would be an alternate choice for donating & I know they were one of the first during floods in CO. several years ago. Prayers & blessings
